A Journey Rooted in Service and Personal Growth
Bevan’s story is defined by his commitment to helping others. During his time at London South East Colleges, he took part in a range of programmes designed to build employability skills and confidence, including the Traineeship, Into Work, and ultimately the NHS Supported Internship - Project SEARCH.
These experiences helped him develop the practical skills, resilience and confidence that continue to shape his professional journey today. His dedication and positive impact were recognised with the Principal’s Award in 2024, celebrating his contribution as the elected SEND Representative on the Student Council.
Thriving in the NHS: From Intern to Hospital Porter
Bevan’s NHS journey began through his Project SEARCH internship at the Princess Royal University Hospital, where he completed six months of hands-on experience within hospital portering teams.
Working across endoscopy and radiology, he gained valuable experience in:
- Patient movement and support
- Equipment handling
- Working as part of a clinical team

Maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards
His commitment and strong work ethic quickly stood out and helped him secure employment following his internship.
Today, Bevan works as a Bank Endoscopy Porter, supporting patient transfers, moving essential equipment and helping ensure the smooth running of clinical areas, all while maintaining vital safety and infection control procedures.
His colleagues regularly praise his reliability, teamwork and compassion - qualities that make him a valued member of the hospital community.
A Voice at the Table
Bevan’s leadership extends beyond his day-to-day role. As a Project SEARCH Shadow Board Member, he contributes to discussions that help shape the future of the programme.
In this role he:
- Reviews Trust Board agendas and contributes insights on key issues
- Supports governance and decision-making with his perspective
- Engages in discussions that help senior leaders understand operational challenges
- Represents Project SEARCH at events and meetings
His involvement demonstrates the importance of including diverse voices in leadership spaces and highlights the valuable perspectives young people bring to organisational decision-making.
A Passion for Community
Outside of his NHS career, Bevan is equally committed to supporting his community. He works as a part-time Youth Worker with Sporting Way, where he helps mentor and support young people.
He also enjoys volunteering, coaching cricket and supporting others, activities that reflect his passion for teamwork, leadership and personal development.
